Public Safety Town Hall Scheduled

The Sacramento Police Department has announced a town hall meeting to discuss community safety initiatives and gather public input. The event will take place on Saturday, April 20, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Community Center Auditorium (1234 J Street).

The town hall is part of the department's ongoing effort to strengthen community-police relations and develop collaborative approaches to public safety. Police Chief Robert Chen will lead the discussion, joined by district captains and representatives from the Community Engagement Unit.

Meeting Agenda

The town hall will cover several key topics:

  • Updates on crime trends and statistics for the first quarter of 2025
  • Overview of the department's new community policing initiatives
  • Introduction of recently hired neighborhood resource officers
  • Discussion of the upcoming youth mentorship program
  • Q&A session with police leadership

"We value community input and believe that public safety is a shared responsibility," said Chief Chen. "This town hall is an opportunity for residents to learn about our initiatives, share their concerns, and help shape our approach to keeping Sacramento safe."

Community Policing Initiatives

A major focus of the town hall will be the department's expanded community policing efforts. In January, the City Council approved funding for 15 new neighborhood resource officers who are specifically assigned to build relationships within designated neighborhoods and address quality-of-life issues.

The department will also present its plans for the Youth Engagement and Mentorship Program, which will pair officers with at-risk youth for recreational activities, academic support, and career guidance. The program is scheduled to launch in June 2025 with an initial cohort of 50 students.

Attendance Information

The town hall is open to all Sacramento residents. No registration is required, but seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. The event will also be livestreamed on the Police Department's social media channels and the city's website.

Spanish and Hmong interpretation services will be provided. Attendees requiring additional accommodations are encouraged to contact the Community Engagement Unit at community@sacpd.org at least 72 hours before the event.

Light refreshments will be served, and free parking is available in the Community Center garage. Attendees are encouraged to bring questions and suggestions for improving public safety in their neighborhoods.

"We hope to see a diverse group of community members at this important event," said Councilmember Mai Vang, who chairs the Public Safety Committee. "The more voices we hear, the better we can tailor our public safety strategies to meet the needs of all Sacramento residents."
